Enhanced Vaccine Certificate

Ontario announced on September 1, 2021, the implementation of an enhanced vaccine certificate program for indoor operations of non-essential businesses. Our fitness centre operates within the definition outlined by the province. Beginning on September 22, 2021, anyone exercising in our fitness centre is required to offer proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

What is the definition of being “fully vaccinated” as it relates to COVID-19?
As defined by Ontario, being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 means having received two doses (plus 14 days) of an available vaccine.

How does this impact operations at Heritage Community Fitness & Rehabilitation Centre?
Beginning September 22, 2021, anyone exercising at our fitness centre (including group fitness classes) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This includes all individuals with a membership, day pass, or coming in as a guest of a member.

Ontario allows for medical exceptions: Individuals who cannot receive the vaccine due to medical exemptions are permitted entry with a doctor’s note until recognized medical exemptions can be integrated as part of a digital vaccine certificate.

The enhanced vaccine certificate program specifically states the program is for indoor settings. What is the plan for the pickleball players?
Pickleball players are not required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination because they are using the outdoor fitness area.

How is compliance with the mandate being tracked?
Ontario is developing an enhanced digital vaccine receipt with a QR code for those who own a smartphone. The full details of that will be announced by Ontario when available. It is expected to be implemented by October 22, 2021.

In the meantime, we ask individuals to submit their proof of full vaccination along with one piece of government-issued ID to or by dropping by the front desk to present the information. Please do not send this information to us through social media. Copies of the documentation are not kept on file. MindBody is updated to reflect that vaccination status has been verified along with the date.

Once this information is in MindBody, we won’t require this information to be presented on a visit-by-visit basis.

How do members proactively place memberships on hold or cancel altogether?
The process remains as it is today. Members can email to request a hold or cancellation. Staff will reply to the email and include a form to complete. Regular fees apply holds and cancellations.

Are memberships put on hold for those who can’t yet show proof of full vaccination (but do intend to get fully vaccinated)?
Members can proactively place their membership on hold for up to three months in a calendar year. The hold fee still applies in this scenario.

Memberships will not automatically be placed on hold for those who have not offered proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Does this mandate include the Collaborative Care Centre?
No, it does not. The Collaborative Care Centre offers essential health care services and remains open to everyone. View our Collaborative Care Centre protocols.

There are people who agree with Ontario’s mandate and there are people who disagree with this mandate. Regardless of an individual’s position on the matter, we do not tolerate aggressive behaviour, bullying, or harassment of any kind.
