Re-opening Our Fitness Facility

COVID-19: We All Play A Role in Keeping Our Community Safe

Our gym and To The Mat Yoga studio re-opened on Friday, July 17. All memberships re-activated on Friday, July 17 and new end-dates apply to compensate for our temporary closure.

Here are some important updates we’d like to share about the re-opening of our gym and To The Mat yoga studio.

Precautionary Measures

During our temporary closure, we have been hard at work putting proactive measures in place to enhance the already stringent health and safety measures at our facility. Here is what we have in place for the safety of our clients, members, and staff:

Air Sanitization

  • Installation of hospital-grade UV-C air sterilization systems on each of our ten HVAC units to kill 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, and mold
  • Seven heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) to bring in a constant flow of fresh air
  • Industrial exhaust fans to create negative air pressure and bring in fresh air

Surface Sanitization

  • Use of hospital-grade antimicrobial vaporizers to disinfect surfaces
  • Use of CDC-recommended spray disinfectants for surfaces such as door handles, counters, switches, fitness equipment, and yoga props
  • Personal spray disinfectant bottles and towels provided to each exercise rehabilitation client, personal training client, and gym member for use while in our facility
  • Alcohol-based hand sanitizer distributed throughout the facility

Other Measures

  • Installation of safety shields at the front desk
  • Limiting the number of people that are allowed in the building at any given time
  • Limiting the number of new monthly gym and yoga memberships sold
  • Replacing carpets in the stretching area with easy-to-sterilize solid surface flooring

General Protocols

  • Please do not park in the parking spaces we have reserved for clients of the Collaborative Care Centre
  • Masks are required when entering our facility
  • Everyone must sanitize their hands using the supplies inside the entrance
  • Everyone must check in with the front desk staff (we’ve removed the keypad for members)
  • Members will have their own disinfectant spray bottle and towel
  • Members must spray down equipment before and after use
  • Please return spray bottles and towels to front desk when complete (members place towel in laundry basket marked ‘Dirty’
    • Each spray bottle will be wiped down, sanitizer will be topped up and placed back on the counter with a clean towel
    • Disinfectant ingredients are posted at the counter (the cleaner will not ruin clothing – this has been tested)

Protocols for Common Areas

  • Masks must be worn in the following parts of the facility
    • Reception area
    • Locker rooms
    • Waiting room
    • Walking to and from classes
    • Entering and exiting the facility
    • Shoe room
  • A note about masks: while a mask is not required to be worn during your workouts, we highly recommend wearing one anyway
  • Lockers: lockers are available for use (sorry, we are not able to lend out locks), members should spray down lockers before placing items in lockers (spray bottles will be in locker rooms for use)
  • Showers: showers are available for use – it’s recommended that members spray down showers before and after use
  • Washrooms:  disinfectant wipes are provided in each stall; members are required to spray down surface areas before and after use
  • Social distancing: please respect social distancing recommendations and wear a mask when you are talking to others

Booking Classes

Pre-booking group fitness, spin, and yoga classes is mandatory. Reserving your space can be done 24/7 through the Heritage Fitness app. We are available to take your calls during our modified business hours. If you receive our voicemail, please leave a message so we can return your call. Please be patient; we expect a high volume of calls and our response time may not be as speedy as usual.

Drop-ins are welcome if space is available.

Do you want more classes? To The Mat Yoga members have complimentary access to our gym and group fitness classes until October 4, 2020. Gym members can purchase unlimited To The Mat Yoga classes for just $62.50 +HST (valid for classes through October 4, 2020)!

Limiting Facility Capacity

We are limiting the number of members allowed in the gym area at the same time:

  • Main Gym Area:  50 members
  • CoreFit Room (group fitness classes/programs):  11-22 members *depending on class style
  • Yoga Studio:  22 members
  • Spin Classes (held in yoga studio): 15 members
    • *each class has their own bin with the appropriate number of spray bottles

Tracking the number of members in the building is done by monitoring the spray bottles. Once all 50 bottles are in use, members wanting to enter will be asked to wait. Our staff will post a sign on the door stating we have reached our maximum number and once a bottle becomes available, the sign will be removed from the door. Do we feel we are going to have an issue with the maximum in the summer months? Short answer, “no”.

Members do not need an appointment to workout in the gym area and we are not limiting workout durations.
